What it does

What jawline filler can and cannot change

Filler adds structure along the bone. It sharpens edges and casts cleaner shadows. It does not tighten loose skin or remove fat, and we will tell you plainly if that is what you need.

Definition

A sharper angle and a cleaner edge

Filler placed along the jawbone and at the angle below the ear makes the edge of the jaw easier to see, from the front and in profile. It suits a jaw that has always been soft or has lost definition with age.

Men and women

Different jaws, different goals

Most men ask for a squarer, more angular frame with a stronger angle. Most women want a slimmer, tapered line that runs smoothly to the chin. The placement changes with the goal, so the result suits your face rather than a template.

Jowls

Camouflaging the jowl shadow

Early jowls cast a shadow that breaks the line of the jaw. Filler in front of and behind that dip can even out the edge so the jowl is less noticeable. It cannot remove jowls or tighten loose skin.

Jaw and chin

Planning the jaw with the chin

A jaw only looks defined when the chin is in proportion. A small or set-back chin often needs its own filler so the new line has a proper end point.

Suitability

Is jawline filler right for you?

A short honest check now saves a wasted appointment. This is how we usually decide.

Book

Often suitable for

Adults with a soft or undefined jaw, a jaw angle that is hard to see, mild jowl shadows, or a jawline that is uneven from one side to the other. Men wanting a stronger, squarer frame and women wanting a neater, tapered line are both common candidates.

Ask first

Talk to us before booking if

You take blood thinners, have an autoimmune condition, have had dental work or a tooth or gum infection recently, or already have filler, threads or implants in the lower face. Avoid booking within two weeks of a wedding or big event, because swelling can take that long to settle.

Not the right fit

When we suggest something else

Anyone under 18 (cosmetic filler for under-18s is illegal in England) and we postpone treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If loose skin or heavy jowls are the main problem, filler will not lift them and we will suggest a surgical opinion. A wide jaw from a strong chewing muscle needs a different treatment, because filler only adds.

Your visit

What happens at your jawline appointment

From the first conversation to the check-up, this is the order things happen in.

  1. Consultation and photos

We spend about 45 minutes on your goals and medical history, and look at your jaw from the front, the side and below. Photos are taken in the same light so we can compare them later.

  2. A plan for both sides

Most jaws are slightly uneven. We mark where filler will go on each side, explain how the 4 ml will be shared and agree the price before anything is injected. Numbing cream goes on while we talk.

  3. Treatment

Filler is placed deep along the bone a little at a time, and we check the line from every angle as we go. You see the new shape in the mirror before you leave.

  4. Review at two weeks

By now the swelling has settled, so we compare photos and check the result together. If one side needs a small adjustment, this is when we talk about it.

Results and aftercare

Recovery, results and how long jawline filler lasts

The jaw is a firm area that moves less than the mouth, so filler here tends to last longer than in the lips. Here is what to expect.

  1. The first few days

Expect some swelling and a tender, bruised feeling along the jaw. Chewing and opening wide can feel stiff for a few days, so choose softer food and leave chewing gum for later.

  2. At two weeks

The swelling has gone and the filler has settled into place. This is the result to judge, and it is when your review appointment takes place.

  3. How long it lasts

For most people jawline filler lasts 12 to 18 months, and sometimes longer. Your metabolism, how much product was used and how active your face is all play a part.

  4. Aftercare do's

Sleep on your back for the first couple of nights, keep the skin clean, and use a cold compress wrapped in a cloth if the jaw feels sore.

  5. Aftercare don'ts

For 24 to 48 hours avoid strenuous exercise, heat (sauna, steam, hot yoga) and alcohol. Avoid facials, massage and firm pressure on the jaw for two weeks, and dental treatment too if you can.

  6. Top-ups

As the filler slowly softens, a top-up is usually smaller than the first treatment. We will tell you honestly at your next visit whether you need one yet.

Safety first. The facial artery crosses the lower jaw just in front of the chewing muscle, so we plan around it and inject slowly in that zone. Contact us straight away about pain that gets worse, skin that turns white, blotchy, grey or blue-purple, or an area that feels cold. Any change in your vision: call 999 or go to A&E. Frequently asked questions

Jawline filler FAQs

Straight answers about comfort, results, prices and aftercare.

How much does jawline filler cost?

At Dermacy Clinic jawline filler is £700 for 4 ml, shared across both sides. Chin filler can be added for £190 (1 ml). If you are comparing quotes, ask how many ml each one includes, because 1 ml spread over both sides of the jaw usually makes only a subtle difference. You can also spread the cost with Medicred patient finance, subject to approval.

How much jawline filler do I need?

More than most people expect. Lips are small and soft, so 1 ml shows. The jaw runs from below the ear to the chin on each side, and filler sits deep on the bone to build an edge, so it needs a firmer product in a larger amount. The jawline treatment is 4 ml, roughly half on each side and adjusted for any unevenness. We confirm the amount at consultation before anything is injected.

How long does jawline filler last?

Usually 12 to 18 months, and sometimes longer. The jaw moves less than the lips and the filler used there is firmer, so it tends to break down slowly. It fades gradually rather than disappearing overnight, and a smaller top-up can hold the line once it starts to soften.

Does jawline filler hurt?

Most people describe pressure and a dull ache rather than sharp pain. We apply numbing cream first, and many fillers also contain a local anaesthetic. The area near the jaw angle can feel more sensitive than the rest. Afterwards the jaw may feel tender for a few days, especially when you chew.

Does jawline filler swell at first?

Yes, a little. Swelling is usually most noticeable for the first two or three days and can make the jaw look wider or slightly uneven at first. Tenderness when you chew or yawn is common for a few days too. Not everyone bruises, but if you do it usually fades within a week or so. Judge the result at two weeks, not before.

Does jawline filler help with jowls?

It can help with early jowls. Filling the dips in front of and behind the jowl straightens the jawline, so the shadow is less obvious. It cannot remove a jowl or tighten loose skin. If the skin is heavy or hanging, adding filler can make the lower face look bigger, and we will tell you that a surgical opinion or a different plan makes more sense.

Does jawline filler help with a double chin?

Not directly. A sharper jaw edge can make the area under the chin look neater, but filler does not remove fat. If fullness under the chin is hiding your jawline, the Aqualyx double chin fat dissolve (£220) is a separate treatment that targets that fat. We can talk through whether it makes sense for you.

Can men have jawline filler?

Yes, and it is a common request from men. Male jaw treatment usually focuses on a stronger angle below the ear and a squarer chin, so the face looks more angular. For women the aim is more often a smooth, tapered line that narrows towards the chin. The filler is the same; where it goes and how much changes with the goal.

Is jawline filler safe?

It is a well-established treatment, but no injection is free of risk. Common effects are swelling, tenderness and bruising. Less often, lumps or unevenness can appear. The rare but serious risk is filler blocking a blood vessel. That is why we plan around the blood vessels near the jaw and only use hyaluronic acid filler, which can be dissolved quickly if needed.

Is jawline filler permanent?

No. Hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body over time, so the result fades, usually within 12 to 18 months. If you change your mind sooner, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. We do not use permanent fillers in the jaw or anywhere else.

Can jawline filler move or feel lumpy?

In the first days the jaw can feel firm or slightly bumpy while the swelling settles, and that usually smooths out on its own. Filler placed deep on the bone, in a sensible amount, is unlikely to move. If a lump is still there at your two-week review, it can often be smoothed, or dissolved if needed.

Does jawline filler include the chin?

Jawline filler and chin filler are priced separately. We always assess the jaw and chin together, because one changes how the other looks. If your chin needs its own treatment for more length or projection, we will suggest adding chin filler (1 ml, £190) and explain why. You decide.

What should I avoid after jawline filler?

For 24 to 48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, heat (sauna, steam, hot yoga) and alcohol. Keep make-up off the treated area for the rest of the day. Avoid facials, massage and firm pressure on your jaw for two weeks, and try to avoid dental treatment for the same period.

Should I get jawline filler?

If your jaw has always been soft, has lost its edge with age or looks uneven, it is worth discussing. You need to be 18 or over, which is the law in England. There is no upper age limit, but where skin is loose, filler will not lift it. The honest answer comes at consultation, once we have looked at your jaw from every angle.

Which filler brands do you use?

We use hyaluronic acid fillers from Juvéderm, Stylage and Fillmed, all of which can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if ever needed. For the jawline we choose firm gels made for definition, such as Juvéderm Volux, which is designed for the chin and jaw. The exact product is chosen for your face at consultation.
