Is cheek filler worth it?
For many people with flat or hollowing cheeks, yes. Filler placed high on the cheekbone lifts the mid-face, softens tired shadows and usually lasts 12 to 18 months. It is rarely worth it if your cheeks are already full, or if loose skin is the main problem. In those cases we will suggest something else at your consultation.

Before
After
Lift and support, not just size
Good cheek filler puts structure back where the mid-face has flattened. The aim is a face that looks rested and well supported. It should never simply look bigger.
Mid-face support
With age, the fat pads in the cheeks thin and slide lower. Filler placed high and deep on the cheekbone gives back that support, which can lift the look of the lower face a little.
Cheekbone definition
For naturally flat cheeks, small amounts along the cheekbone add shape and catch the light. We shape the line to your face, whether you want a soft curve or a more sculpted look.
Softer folds and under-eyes
Supporting the cheek can soften the look of nasolabial folds and under-eye hollows a little. It does not replace treating those areas directly when they need it.
Cheeks with temples
Hollow temples make the cheekbones look sharper and the face look tired. Treating both gives a smoother outline from brow to cheek.
Is cheek filler right for you?
Cheek filler suits more people than you might expect, but not everyone. We will tell you honestly at consultation if another treatment would help you more.
Often suitable for
Adults whose cheeks have flattened or hollowed with age or weight loss, people with naturally flat cheekbones who want more shape, and anyone whose face looks tired even after a good night's sleep.
Talk to us before booking if
You have had cheek filler before and do not know what was used, you have an autoimmune condition, a recent dental or facial infection, take blood-thinning medicines, or have reacted to filler in the past.
When we suggest something else
You have an active infection or cold sore on the face. We treat only adults 18 or over, and we postpone treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Cheeks that are already full rarely need more, and loose skin or heavy jowls usually need a different plan.
What happens at your cheek filler appointment
From the first conversation at our Armthorpe clinic to your check-up, you know what is happening and why.
Consultation and face assessment
About 45 minutes, including your medical history. We look at your face from the front and side, at rest and smiling, and agree what we are aiming for and what it costs.
Numbing and marking
Numbing cream goes on while we mark the key points on your cheekbones. You sit upright so we can see how your cheeks sit naturally.
Placing the filler
Filler goes in slowly and in small amounts, mostly deep on the bone for lift. We compare both sides as we go, and you can look in the mirror at any point.
Aftercare and two-week review
You leave with written aftercare and a direct line to the clinic. Two weeks later we see you again, once swelling has gone, and check the result together.
Recovery and cheek filler aftercare
Most people carry on with their day after treatment. A few simple habits in the first fortnight help the filler settle evenly.
The first few days
Your cheeks may look fuller and feel tender or firm. Swelling usually peaks in the first two days and eases within a week. Bruising is less common than with lips, but it can happen.
Sleeping and pressure
Sleep on your back for the first few nights if you can. For two weeks avoid facials, massage and firm pressure on your cheeks, including resting your face on your hands.
The first 48 hours
Avoid strenuous exercise, heat such as saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga, and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. Keep make-up off the treated area for the rest of the day.
Dental work and big events
Avoid booking cheek filler within two weeks of a wedding or big event. Try to leave dental treatment for two weeks afterwards too. Long appointments with your mouth stretched open can put pressure on fresh filler.
At two weeks
The filler has softened and blended into the tissue. This is your true result, and the point at which we review it with you.
Keeping your result
A smaller maintenance treatment before the filler has fully gone keeps your shape steady. It often needs less product than starting from scratch.
Safety first. The cheek has important blood vessels near the side of the nose, so we plan around them and keep the filler high on the cheekbone. Lumps or uneven filler in the cheek can be dissolved. Contact us straight away about pain that gets worse, skin that turns white, blotchy, grey or blue-purple, or an area that feels cold. Any change in your vision: call 999 or go to A&E. Treatments that pair with cheek filler
Many faces look more balanced when one area is planned alongside another. These are the treatments clients most often consider alongside this one.
Tear trough filler
If hollows under the eyes remain once the cheeks are supported, a small amount of tear trough filler treats them directly.

Cheeks lift the mid-face and a defined jawline frames it from below, for a sharper shape overall.

How much does cheek filler cost in Doncaster?
Cheek filler at Dermacy Clinic costs £360 for 2 ml. Temple filler is £380 for 2 ml if you want to treat the upper face at the same time. You can spread the cost with Medicred patient finance, subject to approval.
How long does cheek filler last?
Usually 12 to 18 months. Cheek filler sits deep, where the face moves less, so it tends to outlast lip filler. Your metabolism, how much was used and how active you are all make a difference. It fades gradually, so you will not wake up one day without it. Many clients book a top-up once they notice the lift softening.
How much cheek filler do I need?
Many people start with 2 ml, shared between both cheeks. If you have lost more volume, you may need more, built up over one or two visits. We tell you what we suggest and the cost before we start. We would rather use too little and review it than too much.
Does cheek filler hurt?
Most people feel pressure and a dull ache rather than sharp pain. Numbing cream goes on first, and most modern fillers also contain a little local anaesthetic, so the area goes numb as we work. For most people the cheeks are a more comfortable area to treat than the lips.
How long does cheek filler swelling last?
Swelling usually peaks in the first 48 hours and settles over about a week. Your cheeks may feel firm for up to two weeks while the filler beds in. Bruising is possible, especially if you take blood-thinning medicines or supplements, and normally fades within one to two weeks. The result is fully settled at around two weeks.
What does cheek filler look like before and after?
Straight after treatment the cheeks look slightly higher and fuller, with some swelling. Once settled, the change should look like a more rested version of you: more shape over the cheekbone, a smoother line down towards the mouth and less flatness from the side. Friends often notice you look well without spotting why.
Can I sleep on my side after cheek filler?
Ideally sleep on your back for the first three nights or so. Lying on one cheek puts steady pressure on filler while it is still soft and settling. An extra pillow on each side helps keep you in position. After the first week, most people can go back to sleeping however they like.
Can cheek filler help nasolabial folds?
Often a little. As the cheek loses support, tissue drops towards the mouth and deepens the fold. Lifting the cheek can soften it. Deep folds may still need direct treatment, and nasolabial fold filler is £360 for 2 ml. At consultation we explain which approach would help you more.
Can cheek filler help under the eyes?
Sometimes. Support in the upper cheek can blend the line between the lower eyelid and the cheek, so hollows look less obvious. Dark circles caused by pigment or thin skin will not change. If hollows remain after your cheeks are treated, tear trough filler treats them directly.
How do you avoid the overfilled 'pillow face' look?
Pillow face comes from too much filler, often placed too low or too far forward, which makes the face look puffy and round. We build lift high on the cheekbone, use the smallest amount that works, and check you from the side and when you smile. If you are unsure at your review, we leave it rather than add more.
Can cheek filler migrate?
Migration is uncommon when the right amount is placed at the right depth. Overfilling and heavy pressure soon after treatment raise the chance of filler moving. Because we only use hyaluronic acid filler, it can be dissolved if it ever sits in the wrong place.
Is cheek filler safe?
For most healthy adults, cheek filler carries a low risk, but every injection carries some risk. Swelling, tenderness and bruising are common and short-lived. Rare risks include infection, lumps and filler blocking a blood vessel, so we plan around blood vessels. We use only dissolvable hyaluronic acid filler.
Is cheek filler permanent?
No. Hyaluronic acid filler breaks down naturally over time. It can also be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you change your mind or something does not look right. We do not use permanent fillers, because they cannot be taken out if a problem appears years later.
Am I suitable for cheek filler?
You need to be 18 or over, as the law in England does not allow filler for under-18s. Good candidates are healthy adults with flat or hollowing cheeks who want a natural-looking change. We postpone treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and while there is an infection on the face.
Which filler brands do you use?
We use hyaluronic acid fillers from Juvéderm, Stylage and Fillmed, all of which can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if ever needed. For cheeks we choose firmer volumising gels, such as Juvéderm Voluma, Stylage XL or Fillmed ART FILLER Volume. The exact product is chosen for your face at consultation.
