Dermal fillers are gels injected under the skin to restore volume, soften lines and shape features such as the lips, cheeks and jawline. At Dermacy Clinic we use hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your skin already makes; it holds water, so the gel supports the tissue and gives a smooth, natural-looking result.

We treat the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, temples, under-eye hollows (tear troughs), nasolabial folds and the nose (a non-surgical nose job), and we offer an 8-point liquid facelift.

Usually between six months and two years. It depends on the area, the product, the amount used and how quickly your body breaks it down; lips tend to fade sooner than cheeks or the chin. We will tell you what to expect for your treatment.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are widely used and are generally well tolerated when they are placed by a trained practitioner after a proper assessment. Like any injectable treatment they carry risks, from bruising and swelling to rare complications such as infection or a blocked blood vessel. We review your medical history first, use hyaluronic acid fillers from established brands, and can dissolve filler with hyaluronidase if it is ever needed.

Swelling, tenderness, redness at the injection points and bruising are common and usually settle within a few days. Small lumps can occur and often soften with time or gentle massage. Very little. Most clients go back to normal activities straight away, and back to work the next day. Lips in particular can look swollen for a few days, and some clients bruise, so avoid booking filler within two weeks of a big event.

No. By law we do not treat anyone under 18. We also postpone treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active infection or cold sore near the area, and with some medical conditions or medicines. We check all of this at your consultation.

The price depends on the area treated and how much filler it needs. At Dermacy Clinic, lip filler is £190 for 0.5 ml or 1 ml, chin filler £190 for 1 ml, tear trough filler £260, the non-surgical nose job £300, cheek and nasolabial fold filler (2 ml) £360, temple filler (2 ml) £380, jawline filler (4 ml) £700 and the 8-point liquid facelift from £1,000, planned at a full consultation. Dissolving existing filler is £150 per ml, and your exact price is agreed at consultation, before anything is injected. When you compare clinics, check how many ml are included and whether the consultation and a review appointment are part of the price.

It depends on what you want to change. For lost volume, or a feature that needs shape, filler gives a visible result straight away with no surgery and little downtime, and it usually lasts six months to two years. It is not worth it when filler is the wrong tool for your concern, and we will tell you at consultation, before you spend anything.

For a day or two before, avoid alcohol and, where it is safe to do so, supplements that thin the blood such as fish oil, vitamin E and ginkgo. Never stop a prescribed medicine without speaking to your doctor. Tell us about any allergies, medical conditions, planned dental work or vaccinations, do not come in with a cold sore or skin infection near the area, and arrive without make-up on the area if you can.

We use hyaluronic acid fillers from Juvéderm, Stylage and Fillmed. All three make gels of different firmness for lips, fine lines, cheeks, chin and jawline, and all can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. We choose the product for your face at consultation and record it in your notes.

Most clients describe it as a little uncomfortable rather than painful. We apply a topical numbing cream first, and many fillers also contain a local anaesthetic. Lips are the most sensitive area.

Straight away. The result then settles over about two weeks as any swelling goes down, which is why your review appointment is at two weeks.

Often, yes. Filler is frequently combined with anti-wrinkle injections or skin boosters as part of a wider plan. We will advise on the right order and timing at your consultation.

Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. We dissolve filler placed elsewhere too, after an assessment, for £150 per ml. An allergy patch test is required before dissolving. Some older permanent or non-hyaluronic fillers cannot be dissolved this way.

More people now want to look like themselves on a good day rather than obviously filled. Too much filler over the years can spread, look puffy or change the shape of a feature, so some clients have old filler dissolved with hyaluronidase and start again with a smaller, better-placed amount. We build results gradually and check them at your two-week review.

Yes. Your skin, bone structure and health matter more than your age. From your 50s, filler is usually used in smaller amounts to restore lost support in the cheeks, temples and jawline rather than to add size, and it often works best alongside skin boosters or anti-wrinkle injections. Where the skin is very loose, filler alone will not lift it, and we will say so.

Preparing well helps (see the question on preparing above). Afterwards, keep the area cool, avoid strenuous exercise, heat and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours, and follow your aftercare sheet. Some clients find arnica helpful.

Lips are usually topped up every 6 to 12 months; cheeks, chin and jawline often last 12 to 18 months. A top-up is usually a smaller amount than the first treatment.

Avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 to 48 hours to keep swelling and bruising down. A gentle walk is fine.

Anti-wrinkle injections soften lines that form when you move your face. Dermal fillers add volume and structure where the face has lost it or a feature needs shape. Many plans use a little of both, and the decision guide above shows which concern suits which treatment.

Yes. We offer lip filler (0.5 ml or 1 ml, £190), lip augmentation with a premium filler (£220) and the Russian lips technique (£220), always shaped to suit your face.

The treatment itself takes 30 to 90 minutes, including time for the numbing cream to work. Larger plans such as a jawline or liquid facelift sit at the longer end.

We recommend keeping make-up off the treated area for the rest of the day so the injection points can settle cleanly. Your aftercare sheet confirms the timing for your treatment.

Yes. Depending on the concern, anti-wrinkle injections, skin boosters such as Profhilo, microneedling or a chemical peel may suit you better. For significant sagging, a surgical opinion may be the honest answer, and we will say so.

Cosmetic filler is illegal for anyone under 18 in England, so we only treat adults. Above that there is no right age, only the right reason: some clients in their twenties want lip shape or chin balance; others start in their forties when volume loss shows.

Filler can support and lift slightly by restoring lost volume, for example in the cheeks and temples. Significant laxity usually needs a different approach, and we will not overfill to chase a lift that filler cannot give.
